Aashvicorporation – MediaTek, the Taiwan-based chip manufacturer, made a significant splash at CES 2023 by showcasing their latest innovations: WiFi 7 technology and the Genio 700 chip, tailored for IoT (Internet of Things) and smart home applications.
WiFi 7, according to MediaTek, promises to revolutionize the connectivity landscape by enabling various devices, including home gateways, mesh routers, TVs, streaming devices, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more, to stay reliably connected at all times.
This cutting-edge technology boasts a remarkable 320MHz bandwidth and 4096-QAM modulation to enhance the overall user experience. Additionally, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) simplifies WiFi connections by aggregating channel speeds and reducing link interference, especially in densely populated environments, ensuring seamless application performance.
“Last year, we introduced the world’s first WiFi 7 technology demonstration, and now we are honored to showcase the significant progress we have made in building a more comprehensive product ecosystem,” remarked Alan Hsu, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Connectivity Business Unit at MediaTek.
WiFi 7 also includes a unique feature called Multi-Link Operation (MLO), expanding WiFi coverage areas and increasing the number of connected devices.
The devices showcased at CES 2023 are powered by MediaTek’s latest Filogic chip, which combines WiFi 7 access point technology for broadband operators, retail router channels, and enterprise markets. Additionally, the Filogic 380 chipset is utilized to bring WiFi 7 connectivity to all client devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, TVs, and streaming devices, offering impressive power efficiency with a 50% reduction in power consumption, a 25x reduction in CPU usage, and a 100x reduction in MLO switch latency compared to competing options, all thanks to its 6nm manufacturing process.
In addition to introducing consumer-ready WiFi 7 products, MediaTek also announced the successful completion of interoperability testing for Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC) on MediaTek Filogic WiFi 7 and WiFi 6E chips.
Genio 700 Chip The Genio 700 chip is designed for IoT products used in smart homes, smart retail, and various other IoT industries. At CES 2023, MediaTek’s booth also featured demonstrations of this latest chipset.
Manufactured with 6nm fabrication technology, the Genio 700 chip boasts two ARM A78 cores running at 2.2GHz and six ARM A55 cores running at 2.0GHz, along with AI 4.0 TOP accelerators. This chipset also supports FHD60+4K60 displays and an Image Signal Processor (ISP) for enhanced image quality.
Moreover, the Genio 700 SDK (Software Development Kit) facilitates IoT product designers in customizing their products using Yocto Linux, Ubuntu, and Android. With this support, customers can effortlessly develop products tailored to their specific applications.
“When we launched the Genio series of IoT products last year, we designed the platform with scalability and development support in mind, opening doors for continuous growth opportunities for brands in the IoT industry,” stated Richard Lu, Vice President of MediaTek IoT Business Unit.
“With a focus on industrial products and smart homes, the Genio 700 is the perfect addition to our product lineup, ensuring we can provide extensive support to our customers,” he added.
